The Family Pantry of Cape Cod recognized as a "Service Enterprise" organization
The Family Pantry of Cape Cod was recently recognized as a "service enterprise" organization. Designation proves The Pantry has demonstrated it is a high performing organization that has deeply integrated their volunteers into their strategic plan and organizational infrastructure. This allows them to reduce costs, and increase efficiency and effectiveness in providing services to fulfill the mission of providing food and clothing to the Cape Cod community.
Executive Director, Christine Menard gives high praise to operations manager, Pat Brophy and the volunteer team for demonstrating how strong the Family Pantry is and the benefit it is to the Cape community. "The Pantry has been serving our Cape communities for 27 years at a very high level. It is nice to see the recognition from the 'Points of Light' organization."
Non-profit organizations named as a "service enterprise" prove to their funder, volunteer and client communities they are best in class.
The Service Enterprise instructors recognized early in the training that the Family Pantry was very sound across the board, scoring 90% on the first assessment of the Pantry. The next ten months provided ways for the Pantry to refine existing procedures and build new policies like the evacuation process for the warehouse and the Second Glance Thrift Shop.
Menard stated "through the service enterprise process we were able to learn a great deal, including how to systemically quantify the numerical value of the volunteers to the organization." The "Independent Sector", a forum that represents thousands of non-profits, determined the annual hourly rate of $23.56 to be used when estimating the volunteer workforce. Using this estimate, the Family Pantry of Cape Cod would have an annual payroll expense of $1.6 million if not for the 530 volunteers supporting the Pantry. The return on investment (ROI) on volunteer involvement, using the same process, is 392%.
The Family Pantry of Cape Cod is the largest food pantry on the Cape and serves every town. They are located at 133 Queen Anne Road in Harwich. Those interested in volunteering or donating to the pantry to can find more information at www.thefamilypantry.com or call 508-432-6519
