June 11th - The Family Pantry of Cape Cod kicked off the summer with a benefit at the Wychmere Beach Club in Harwich Port. It was chaired by Tom & Shelly O’Neill, David Metzler, Kip & Stephanie O’Neill, Demetrios & Sarah Dasco, Matt & Erin Kelley and Paul & Mary Jo Barett. Tom & Shelly O’Neill have been involved with the Pantry since the beginning. This Gala is the Pantry’s signature fund raiser which is very successful due to the O’Neill’s and the efforts of their committee.
This year, record breaking attendance sampled elegant edibles and enjoyed a special performance by North Shore Acappella all the while experiencing breathtaking views of the ocean, all for a good cause. Susan Adsit, President of the Board of Directors of The Family Pantry of Cape Cod, presented two awards at the sixth annual summer Gala.

The Founders’ Award which recognizes one of the very special business supporters of the Pantry. Its criteria being that the individual must share the passion and vision of the founders who started the Pantry 25 years ago. This year the Founders’ award was presented to Albert & Marion Gausz. The Gausz’s are longtime supporters of the Pantry who remember their humble beginnings and have always appreciated what the Family Pantry does for the Cape Community. The couple is a frequent visitor to the Pantry, visiting with staff and volunteers.
The President’s Award, which is given to a person or family who is a strong supporter of the Pantry, was presented to the TJX Corporation represented by Paul Jordan. The TJX team was instrumental in launching the new Second Glance Thrift Shop location, providing fixtures, time and expertise. In addition, the team helped to re-design the Family Pantry client boutique this past winter.
O’Neill spoke about the Pantry’s Shop for the Hungry Campaign working to feed and clothe those in need throughout Cape Cod that is underway. The Pantry must raise $236,000 to meet its goal.
The benefit host committee put together an evening to remember while raising funds for The Family Pantry of Cape Cod. Proceeds from the Gala will benefit the Family Pantry of Cape Cod, the largest food pantry on Cape Cod which serves anyone in need with no restrictions, geographic or otherwise. The Pantry provided services to over 9,200 people with the help of over 550 volunteers in 2016. New clients were up 17%, a trend which the Pantry does not see changing in the foreseeable future. The Pantry extends its gratitude to the many supporters, volunteers and neighbors. The Pantry is committed to fulfilling their mission and the support of all in the community is critical to the success of the mission.
