From the Director's Chair
The garlic is growing in our garden so that means Spring must be near! Every year we look forward to the launch of the Family Pantry garden, known affectionately as "the beast". She is over 9,000 square feet and produces 3 tons of vegetables each year. The vegetables, ranging from beets to broccoli, will be a welcome addition as we strive to distribute up to 30% of all foods as fresh fruits and vegetables to our clients.
However, while we wait patiently for spring to arrive we continue to have record breaking weeks at the Pantry serving up to 400 families per week. All the more reason to take a minute and enjoy some wonderful soup at the annual Soup Bowls for Hunger benefit planned for April 11th at the Cape Cod Tech. If you have never attended, you are missing out on one of the signature events held in Harwich each year.
While you are enjoying your soup, know that we will be working on the details of this year's Summer Gala slated for June 24th. The gala funds our summer season and makes it possible for the Pantry to feed and clothe our seasonal and year round clients. This year we are delighted to announce that the band "Pulse of Boston", who is described as a cross between Bruno Mars and the Temptations, will be filling the Wychmere Harbor Beach Club with great dance music for the Gala.
So, slurp some soup, get your dancing shoes dusted off, pull out the seed catalogs and mark your calendars for all the Family Pantry events planned over the next few weeks and months.
I hope to see you soon,
Christine

This will be the 26th year the Cape Cod Potters have hosted this event to benefit the Family Pantry.
On April 11th, artists from across the Cape will donate hundreds of handmade soup bowls, the Girl Scouts will be hostessing, and the culinary department at Cape Cod Tech will offer two heartwarming soups.
The meal consists of a roll, coffee or tea, and a warming soup served in a handmade bowl that each participant gets to keep as a reminder of hunger on Cape Cod. All of the 600 plus bowls are handmade by professional potters, art students and those in art programs across Cape Cod.
There will be three seatings for this event 5:30, 6:00, and 6:30 p.m.
The price of each ticket is $18 and each seating will sell out. Tickets will go on sale on March 1st. Follow this link to purchase tickets Cape Cod Potters

Hyannis West Elementary School held a food drive and provided over 300 pounds to the Family Pantry, while learning about food insecurity and how they can help. The kids did an amazing job and will be visiting the Pantry to see their efforts in action.
