A GARDEN BY THE SEA
It’s SPRING……and here on Cape Cod thoughts turn to lazy days spent sowing the garden and relaxing by or on the water! The MID CAPE CHORUS, celebrating 48 years of choral music, will present its Annual Memorial Day Benefit Concert on Sunday, May 27 at 5:00PM at the Pilgrim Congregational Church, Route 28 (Main Street), Harwich Port.
The concert theme, A GARDEN BY THE SEA, abounds with music evocative of warm, verdant and sunny days. Songs expounding the joys of working in the earth (“Garden Song” and “A Girl’s Garden”), or sailing boldly on the ocean(“I am the Monarch of the Sea”) or in the case of our Disney set, living “Under the Sea”, all add to the fun and joyful nature of this concert. A rollicking group of sea chanties (“What Do We Do with a Drunken Sailor?”) as well as popular favorites with a floral theme such as “The Rose and “Eidelweiss” are but a sampling of what’s in store! The 90 voice chorus, conducted by Melodi Southworth, will be joined by a jazz trio including accompanist Art McManus, piano; Judy Yaldatel, string bass; and Ken Rogers, percussion. In addition they will be joined by Ruth B. Garcia, oboe; and Connor O’Neil, bagpipes.
Traditionally the second half of the holiday program features pieces designed to commemorate the spirit of the men and women who have dedicated their lives in service to this country. In addition, this year we will pay a special homage to the music of World War I (complete with bagpipes), as this year marks the 100th anniversary of the war’s conclusion.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit The Family Pantry of Cape Cod and The Mid Cape Chorus. General admission tickets available for $20.00 can be purchased from chorus members or by calling 508-430-7136. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door.
